Can't commit to a 4-week Nature class? Then the popular "Collage & Cocktails" is for you!! It’s a 2.5-hour workshop that supplies everything you need to try some experimental painting and create a collage! And yes, cocktails will be provided! Or BYOB if you’d prefer.
In "Forest Treasures Transformed: Incorporating your nature finds and photos into your work” you'll be making a niche in a cradled wooden panel to house YOUR favorite specimen or photo, and then surround it with your own collage papers, ephemera, botanical specimens and more. In order to give you more space and individual attention, I am limiting this class to 4 students, each who will have a half of a banquette table to work on, as well as designated drying space. In this 4-week class, we will:
- PLAY!! with abstract painting and creating organic surfaces/imagery with leaves
-introduction to gelli plate printing
-learn how to properly prepare and adhere botanical specimens
-use the printer and copier to include images we’ve either collected or photographed
-create your own digitally cut stencils/mask/images that you can use in your work
-create an 8” x 10” x 1.5” wooden panel with a recessed niche (if you so choose) using power tools (I will assist the reluctant :)
-create lots of custom collage papers (fodder!) for your piece and future pieces!

The ideal student would be:
-A nature lover!
-Willing to play and experiment!!
-Familiar with taking digital images and have a way to edit them and their size.
You need be able to email me a JPG or PDF image to work with.
-Have some previous art experience; collage and painting is what we’ll be doing!
-OK with some “art smells” - spray fixatives are required at certain points of the process. (Fans will be utilized)
All materials included
Each student will receive a package of their own specialty papers, a sketchbook, and a cradled hardwood panel and unlimited use of the following:
acrylics, mediums, spray paint, inks, pastels, tapes, color and b/w prints, transparencies, digitally cut vinyl, spray fixatives and???
