The fotoMuses, a group of women photographers, reveal their latest exhibit, “Nature At Home and Abroad" at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct, Schaumburg, IL (through September 27, 2024)
Interested in highlighting their love of nature, members bring creative interpretations of nature from around the world from behind the lens of their cameras.
Kim Stines of St. Charles and Bark Work of Wheaton coordinated this exhibit. The group collectively has a tremendous depth of experience in the Arts. Moreover, each has a unique set of skills and training in the arts which allows for a broad interpretation on this show’s theme. Each piece presents a bird’s eye view of the artist’s vision.
Work, like other members of the group, enjoys travel; both statewide and abroad. “Our group’s goal was to capture the soul and beauty of what nature has to exhibit,” she said, adding, “Members find nature calming, uplifting, entertaining and inspirational, revealing the beauty that our world provides; from traditional landscapes to using shapes and colors as enhancing accents.”
Stines is well-known for her pet photography. “My love for nature and pet photography was a perfect fit,” she said, adding, “Integrating animals and nature is a rewarding experience. Photography is like going on a treasure hunt. When words cease to describe what is revealed behind the lens, the magic moment becomes apparent.” Stines’ goal is to share these hidden gems. “My ability to share images from experiences in Africa was an added bonus,” said Stines.
The exhibit showcases all aspects of nature from traditional landscapes, to using shapes and colors as enhancing accents, while printing on fabric, wood, and various papers.
The fotoMuses, a group of women who share a love of photography, display their photos in a creative, professional way. The group is currently made up of 12 women, many of whom met while discovering their creative sides together through the photography program at the College of DuPage. Members also include Marita Blanken and Linda Markese of Downers Grove, Anne Frantzen of Hinsdale, Joan Kalmanek of Lisle, Janice Henry of Bloomingdale, Judy Kinal of Roselle, Joan Ladendorf of Hanover Park, Cheryl Rausch of Lombard, and Marje Reichart of St. Charles, and Joan Trushin of West Chicago.
The Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and select evenings and weekends during events.
