Chicago Sculptor Brings "be you" Sculpture to St. Charles, IL

Erected during the summer of 2020, the "be you" sculpture provides residents and visitors with a "Kodak Moment" for memorable photos. You can find it on the West side of the river at 1st Street Plaza.

The St. Charles Business Alliance commissioned Chicago artist, Matthew Hoffman, founder of the “You are Beautiful” project to erect a “Be You” sculpture along the Fox River in St. Charles, IL. City officials hope that residents and visitors alike will stop by this upbeat sculpture to take photos and post on social media using the hastag: #Beyouinstc.

Hoffman began his “You are Beautiful” campaign in 2002 by distributing more than 5.5 million stickers containing that simple message. He believed that those three little words carried a powerful message that could encourage others.

His business has grown exponentially from humble beginnings in his garage to the You are Beautiful headquarters he’s established in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago at 3368 N. Elston. This location not only houses his studio, but also a retail store with hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12 to 4 PM. When stopping by, shoppers are also welcome to tour his studio.
