Although Hannah Honeycutt always enjoyed taking photos, she didn’t get serious about it until about 10 years ago. Prior to that, her parents bought her cameras and upgraded them regularly for her to use.
Along her photographic journey, she started expanding her community to include other like-minded individuals which helped expand upon her skills and give her ideas where to pursue off-the-beaten path subject matter.
Focusing on nature, animals, and abandoned structures, she’ll often drive around until she stumbles upon something that captures her interest.
Using a Canon Rebel T3, she especially enjoys discovering untouched areas such as when she’s hiking. Old barns and buildings that seem eager to share their past before they disappear forever in time, are frequent favorites when she can find them.
“I like taking photos that can capture a moment in time,” Hannah explains. “I’m inspired by rural scenery and love to find forgotten things that other people don’t get to see. I especially enjoy the “golden hour” from about 4 -7 PM when animals are their most active and I can spot them wandering around their habitat.”
Hannah notes that time of day for photographs is especially important depending on what you’re looking for. She also enjoys pursuing sunsets and sunrises.
She encourages other photography enthusiasts to hang with like-minded people to learn from them by sharing tips and tricks. She also enjoys mingling with shoppers when displaying her photos at local farmers markets. That’s when she learns about more places to visit for photographing along with getting feedback about her current work.
“No photo is meant to be perfect,” she says. “Just capture what you’re seeing at that moment in time because it is from your own unique vantage point.”
