Located at 235 E. Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb, IL, Elisa celebrated a ribbon cutting and Grand Opening on March 28, 2025. The well-lit gallery brims with her fabulous work from stained glass walls and oil paintings with public art projects and sculpture also keeping her busy. It seems there isn't anything artful that Elisa can't do, and do very, very well! Her work with Singulart Gallery in Paris, France helps place her consistently in the Top Ten most collected artists, domestically and internationally.
She once said: "I just want a space that we can live in and have a gallery all in one space," which launched a three-year journey. However, that idea changed once she and her husband found a house, then a commercial building where they could move the studio. Renovations in DeKalb began November 2023. New roofing and outside walls, refinished floors, new interior walls, hanging systems and updated lighting filled her days until her dream gallery was finally completed.
Here's some background information about her artistry from her website:
"Elisa R. Boughner was born in the United States, raised in Mexico and studied art in America and Europe. Her work reflects the influence of each of these cultures, and of a range of painting styles from the Impressionists, through the German Expressionists, and finally the Cubist. The result is a unique and highly personal style that brings extraordinary vibrance to often ordinary subjects.
Boughner uses traditional forms such as still life, but animates them through bold, often unconventional color and dynamic brushwork. By using often densely layered colors she achieves a complex, subtle and wide emotional range that transforms studies of external surfaces into exposes of internal feeling. The contrast between her objective subject matter and subjective treatment generates a creative dissonance that brings the paintings richly to life.
Boughner uses the bright colors characteristic of Mexican painting but employs them in the viscerally communicative fashion of the Expressionists. Her palette is often innovative, sometimes subversive, achieving striking complements and juxtapositions. Her intuitive, almost tactile use of color and form speak a highly personal artistic language, one that communicates directly and eloquently with the viewer."
