HERE'S WHAT ED WRITES ABOUT THIS SCENE:
The background of that painting is a bit unusual. One of my favorite trees is the Canadian Hemlock seen in the left of the picture. They are not common in the Midwest. My wife and I went to Indiana's Turkey Run State Park for Christmas several years ago. One of my intentions was to photograph covered bridges of which 31 could be found in Parke County where the State Park is located. When I saw the Hemlocks covered bridges became secondary. Also growing there were Beech trees the leaves of which turn a rich golden color in the Fall and tend for the most part to stay on the tree. The gold contrasting with the darker green of the Hemlocks was just perfect.
The weather was unseasonably warm and there were manty trails in the park which we enjoyed walking. I saw this scene on one of them and this work is the third rendition of that, my favorite scene of our visit. Each work has a different approach and treatment (as in the attached image). Someday I may do a fourth painting of that group of trees. ###
